A unique project, a prestigious hotel in the heart of Geneva

Built in 1901, this building witnessed the golden age of the city of Geneva, then considered one of Europe's most important tourist destinations. Alpenda is overseeing its renovation from 2018 to 2021.

Situation

Over the years, this post-Haussmann-style building, designed by architect François Durel, has become a landmark for the city.

Starting in 2016, the hotel’s owner set about transforming this architectural gem, with the aim of preserving its history and heritage while making the necessary improvements to make it functional and sustainable.

With its long-standing tradition, this 19th-century listed building has been outfitted with specific luxury features.

This project is a benchmark in terms of very high standing and has enabled Alpenda to demonstrate once again its expertise in top-of-the-range renovation.

Solution

Alpenda proposed several solutions for this emblematic project.

As a Total Contractor, Alpenda planned the construction of a high-quality structure in a difficult context, marked by restricted access, a busy road, high housing density and the structure’s classification.

The customer’s support strategy enabled us to meet very high-end requirements. The team specializing in this type of project was able to contribute its expertise in coordinating, selecting and monitoring contractors and subcontractors.

Special features

The world of luxury imposes specific requirements on the project. Alpenda therefore oversaw the provision of out-of-the-box services to meet the customer’s expectations.

Straw marquetry and the use of gold leaf decorative paint are two outstanding examples.

In addition to the special fittings for the hotel suites, the transformation of the Guerlain SPA and the Michelin-starred restaurant required in-depth work, calling for highly specialized services.

Project

The renovation has enabled the customer to operate its luxury hotel, comprising 26 suites, a new Guerlain spa, a restaurant “l’Atelier”
Joël Robuchon and another restaurant “Le jardinier”. The Parisian agency “Pierre Yves Rochon” was responsible for the interior design of the suites. The project also included the construction of a parking lot and administrative premises on an adjoining plot.

Each suite is unique, with its own particularities and universe. What’s more, the palace’s spa offers generous space, with an indoor swimming pool, sauna and hammam, rounding out the range of top-quality services.

Techniques

The Woodward favors renewable energy. The building is heated and cooled using water from Lake Geneva via the Genilac network. A renewable hydrothermal technology, using a local resource.
