Situation

This location, easily accessible and well served by public transport, exposes the building to noise pollution, particularly from the Route de Vernier to the north.

The building is constructed to take account of these specific features, sheltered by a wall that acts as a sound barrier, from the south-east gable to the south property line on the ch. du Villard side.

The entire design of the building itself takes account of this particular situation and its drawbacks, resulting in a high-quality construction, adapted to its environment and suitable for the services expected of a modern medical-social establishment.

Program

Part of the EMS 2010 development program. Developed over six elevated levels and a basement, the building has a volume of 31,153 m3, to which must be added the 3,891 m3 of the underground garage, which has 35 parking spaces.

The program includes 87 rooms, with service and care areas, a restaurant equipped with its own kitchen and administration areas, all spread over a gross floor area of 8,486 m2.

As part of the State of Geneva’s EMS 2010 program, the building contributes to the development of this line, which by 2010 will include 1,130 additional beds to the 3,300 already available in the canton.

Project

Unique orientation for living spaces.

The choice made to meet the site’s requirements resulted in an east-west layout, with two asymmetrical wings separated by a central circulation core.

This solution allows living areas and bedrooms to face south, i.e. “garden side”, benefiting from excellent sunlight and protection from urban nuisance. Only the service rooms face north.
