Situation

The area to the west of this axis is now home to a mixed-use community complex comprising a multi-purpose hall (for shows, parties, local society events, etc.) and its annexes, as well as a sports complex with two retractable-wall gymnasiums, complemented by outdoor sports fields.

The eastern sector remains available for the future eight-classroom school building. The complex’s 22,400 m3 SIA volume came into being after numerous technical and budgetary studies, and was finally built on the basis of a ceiling-price contract awarded to a general contractor, following a review of a project initially deemed too costly and postponed to a better time by the local council.

Work began in May 1998, and was completed in sixteen months, with the premises being handed over for operation in early September 1999.

Project

Shared solutions and versatile facilities. The buildings feature a pleasing massing and a modest footprint on the site: the 2,230 m2 ground floor with two elevated levels, plus a semi-subterranean one, create an elegant building with a modern image, asserted both by the choice of materials (predominantly metal and glass) and by the design of the various components.

Gymnasiums comply with cantonal standards, which logically determine the basis of the project, and one of their particular features is the possibility of using the hall of the main hall, with its bar, or even its foyer equipped with a high-performance kitchen, for major sporting events. Conversely, if a large-scale show is held in the main hall, the changing rooms in the gymnastics halls can be used as dressing rooms.

By bringing together cultural, festive and sporting activities on a single site, the complex is destined to become the main meeting point for the people of Pranginé. The auditorium, which seats 292 on the parterre and 92 in the gallery, is designed for maximum versatility.

To this end, both the lighting design and the acoustic measures have been studied to best suit the various types of events that will take place in the new buildings. Similarly, the large stage is equipped for all kinds of shows, including those presented by the Théâtre de Prangins.

As for the hall itself, it opens onto the foyer via large sliding doors, creating a welcome extension if the size of an event so requires. The outside layout includes sports fields, paths and accesses, as well as a parking area for forty-two vehicles.

Once the school section has been built on the site, the whole will form a coherent and efficient whole, perfectly integrated and representative of an interesting and qualitatively high-level policy in terms of land and community asset management.
