Sports and relaxation

The public swimming pool at the Villars Sports Center is an extension of the mythical ice rink of the local club, twice Swiss ice hockey champions in the early 1960s.

Situation

Cleaned up and enlarged, it now boasts a large wellness area. The new sports and relaxation facilities should meet the expectations of local residents and tourists attracted by the special charm of this resort located at an altitude of 1,300 metres in the heart of the Vaud Alps.

Architecture

Carried out by general contractor Alpenda on behalf of Centre des Sports de Villars SA, the work took almost two years to complete. In addition to the creation of the wellness area, the old building, inaugurated in 1974, had to be refurbished.

The main pool’s twenty-five-meter pool was demolished to increase its depth and integrate a movable floor.

The completely renovated steel structure features acoustic baffles, while an exposed timber frame caps the wellness extension.

The metal facade adopts an aluminum post-and-beam system, with wooden cladding highlighting the entrance to the complex.

The “old chalet” atmosphere prevails inside the wellness center, as evidenced by the non-slip granite-type tiling and walls clad in stone and old wood cladding.

Usage

Thanks to large triple-glazed windows, bathers enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding greenery and mountains.

An indoor walkway links the changing rooms to the two-storey wellness area, featuring two steam rooms, two saunas, two massage rooms, two relaxation rooms, an eighteen-degree cold pool, a new thirty-six-degree outdoor pool and a roof terrace.

The main entrance provides access to the bowling alley, indoor swimming pool, wellness area and outdoor leisure areas. Interior walkways have been optimized, and an area has been created for spectators wishing to attend sporting events.

The twenty-five-metre pool is equipped with a stainless steel movable floor, enabling it to be used for a wide range of purposes, from learning to swim to organizing competitions. As for the new 100-metre-long stainless steel outdoor slide, it promises to delight young and old alike.

Energy concept

The Centre des Sports is equipped with two technical plants. The first houses a pellet-fired boiler to provide heat for the new wellness area and swimming pools.

The second, in which the old gas-fired heating system is installed, also manages the ventilation monoblocks.

An extraction fan rejects moisture-saturated air from the water treatment plant, while a PVC extraction system evacuates acidic air after treatment of the chemical deposit.

That’s all the reassurance you need before dipping a toe in one of the four pools at the new Villars complex – 858 cubic metres of water in all! Last but not least, the cash desk is shared by customers of both the skating rink and the swimming pool.
