In the heart of the village

In the center of Begnins, two new condominium buildings enjoy all the conveniences of this location.

Situation

Shops, primary and secondary schools and public transport are just a few dozen meters away. This privileged central location meant that the architecture had to fit in perfectly with an environment that, at its heart, retains its roots as a winegrowing village.

The four-sloped roof of the new buildings, in quartz-enamelled zinc, echoes the shape of the roofs of the village houses and contributes greatly to this integration.

Project

Twenty apartments. The project involved the construction of two buildings, one with eight and the other with twelve apartments on five levels. The smaller building – on the upper level – offers two apartments per floor, the larger one three. For both buildings, the underground level, in addition to the PC shelter and technical rooms, offers parking spaces for vehicles: a total of thirty-five spaces inside, complemented by twelve outside.

Realization

Ecological concerns. Construction began by reinforcing the site to create the excavation enclosure. A steep slope and dense urban environment complicated the builders’ task. The two buildings were constructed in reinforced concrete with perimeter insulation. Remote-heated, the new buildings have all the qualities needed to claim the Minergie eco-label.

In addition to building insulation and special glazing, heating is provided by the thermal power plant serving Begnins and other surrounding villages.

It works with a renewable material, wood pellets.

Inside, the apartments were designed according to the tenant’s wishes, but to a high standard. The common areas were treated with great care, using natural stone for the entrances and stairwells. The two buildings, each with its own entrance and parking area, are separated by a playground and planted with trees.

The buildings are now fully occupied, putting the finishing touches to a project whose tight 15-month schedule required constant monitoring.
